How to Commit to Your Training Schedule During Summer & Vacations

Vacations and summertime are one of the hardest times for people to stay on track with their training schedules. It’s easy to get unmotivated when the weather is beautiful and your friends and family are out having fun. Since summertime is associated with time at the pool, barbeques and family trips, it’s easy to fall off the wagon. The same goes for when you take a vacation. There are so many places to see and things to do that you push your training to the back of your mind.


Unfortunately, once your vacation or summer is over, winter hits you hard with heavy food and large clothing. It becomes chaotic and you forget about getting that summer body. However, when you make your training schedule consistent and a top priority, you will begin to encounter lifestyle changes and reap the benefits.


Here are a few ways to stay committed to your workout plan over summertime and during your vacations.


Change Your Expectations


When you’re at home, you’re in a routine. It makes it much easier to stay committed to your routine because it becomes second nature. However, when you’re on vacation or soaring through the summer months, things change and more activities pop up. Don’t set unrealistic expectations for yourself because if you do it’s more likely you will give up completely. Be realistic and commit to your schedule. Once you get into a routine, you can up your commitments and take things a step further.


Pack Some Essentials


It’s easy to get a full body workout in with minimal to no equipment. A jump rope and some resistance bands do wonders. Remember, body weight exercises are also extremely effective, so don’t rule those out if you’ve been used to hitting the weights every day. A little goes a long way so just try and be active every day.


Think Efficiency


If your calendar starts to get busy during the summer months, don’t rule out exercise. You can get a great workout in, in 30 minutes or less. Jumping rope, some body weight exercises and some HIIT can be done as soon as when you wake up so you get it out of the way.


Be More Active on Trips


Warm weather inspires you to be outside. So plan some activities that allow you to be outside while getting in a workout. One of the best ways to do this, whether you’re at home enjoying a long summer day or on vacation is to hike. They are family friendly, allow you to connect with nature and will make you feel accomplished once you’re finished. Another idea is to take more adventures to active cities. You’ll get inspiration from all around you.
